Sounds good! New site for designers to share collections and photos. I think I might try to join that. And then when I clicked to request an invitation I got this simple question..... "Why should I be invited"

Geez! I dunno. This totally froze my StumbleUpon session. This was the result.

my_first_mac.jpg

Lets get some of the embarrassing stuff out of the way. Yes, that is me in March 1989, and yes I realize the picture quality is horrible.

This was my first Mac purchased by my father under great secrecy. For a very long time my mother believed this computer was a loner from his company, and to this day I feel like I shorted him on enthusiasm because I couldn't do the whole Christmas morning thing when he brought it home.

The machine was the Mac SE and the giant box you see in the foreground is a whopping 20 megabyte hard drive. We took it along with us on spring break to Florida and this was me after 15 hours of driving...reading the manual in a hotel room.

good times, good time!

ecto 3 gets tested

200812301209.jpgecto 3 is a desktop blogging client for MacOSX. I tested its rival, MarsEdit, last month. Although I liked MarsEdit, it left me wanting more. I felt like it was great for short posts, but other than that I was right back to my old ways of writing from my admin panel for larger posts.

ecto 3 is another stab at freeing myself from the admin. At the end of the 17 day trial I hope to report back with a wrap-up of both programs, and a purchase.

TIPS!

You may have a problem with ecto telling you that it cannot find the blogs entry point. If you recieve this or similar message during setup point to this file in your mt folder:

http://www.yourdomain.com/mt/mt-xmlrpc.cgi

Both programs didn't work with a normal password using Movable Type. You will need your Web Services Password. To find this in MT 4, click on your username in the upper right corner of the admin panel. Once there under preferences you will see Web Services Password.web_services_password.jpg

Click reveal to access a popup box with your password. That's it, enjoy!

These things NEVER get old... Do they? Have 5 minutes and a photo of yourself? That's all it takes to have SUPER LOTS of fun!

Yesterday Google announced that they updated their Street View maps. Upon realizing that Destin was added to the coverage area I dropped the little guy in my general area and BOOM! What you see above is my son and his best friend looking right into the Google big brother camera! I can't tell you how jealous I am.

Here is the updated coverage area from Google. Let me know if you find yourself.

Magnetic Web Media is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Deadworry online store. Not only has it been a fun project, but they have a really sweet product line. I was eager to make the first purchase and even more excited when I received my package yesterday.

Deadworry is based out of Ft. Walton Beach, FL. and their indie clothing has been sold all over the world via various resellers. Now with their very own store, customers can find all the great designs in one place!

Have a peek at the clothing and remember, only a few shopping days left for that "cool" person on your holiday shopping list.

391EAC20-E002-40D0-A334-3380D9B48F3A.jpgTesting out something completely new here. The program is called Mars Edit, and it promises to make my blogging experience much easier, and FASTER. Not that logging into my control panel is a big deal, but I'm hoping that the ease of updating from a desktop app will help with the quickies like this one. Be watching fort a full review in a few weeks.

Go get your free 30 day trial here and post your likes and dislikes in the comments. Also, if you currently use Mars Edit and you have some tips, drop those in as well!

Once again Barack shows that he does indeed get "IT".  That "IT" being technology in the present and the future. A friend of mine forwarded me this screen shot and my first reaction was...cool!  Then that uncontrollable urge to add a few fantasy lines struck.  Hope it makes you chuckle. Hey, make your own and send it to (baracksms at gmail dot com) and I'll post the best in a future post.  Have fun and keep it clean. download the original jpg

phone_numbers.gifPlease observe this picture.  It's a sample webpage with some phone numbers. Most smartphones will now dial a phone number from your web page without any special coding needed. If you are a business owner or a web developer, please do not let example #4 happen to you.

I understand that having words in your phone number is very clever and works great for non-interactive media, but clients use their smartphones for everything today and it's only getting more prominent.  Do not frustrate them by tricking their phones.

Trouble starting iTunes

For the past few months, I have been having intermittent issues with my MacBook Pro. The main problem has been iTunes not behaving. A typical scenario is simply starting iTunes and it just hangs with no window or anything. When I resort to force quitting, once again... nothing. Upon restarting the computer It took over 10 minutes. To be sure the restart wasn't a fluke I restarted again and got the same result. At this point I became concerned that there was more going on than a simple iTunes issue.

Like I said, this has been happening for the past few months and it always seems to work itself out. Today I had a few moments to spare so I repaired permissions, as recommended, and still iTunes was freezing on start. I was on the verge of reinstalling iTunes and decided to do it from the comfort of my living room. As soon as I unplugged my peripherals iTunes fired right up. BINGO! The problem all along has been my iPod shuffle. I made sure to restart my computer to see if it was still slow, and once again startup retuned to its snappy self. I'm sure others have encountered this problem so I hope this helps.

If anyone knows a real fix for this issue other than just not leaving my shuffle connected, let me know.
